Welcome To The Fort Seward Historic Site
Come hear the stories of what life was like for the men and women at Fort Seward and in early Jamestown.
Fort Seward was in operation from 1872 to 1877. None of the original buildings are left, but there are stone cairns marking the corners where the officers quarters once stood. The historic Jamestown location now houses an interpretive center, displaying items from firearms to artifacts excavated on site. Admission to the interpretive center is free and there is small gift shop with souvenirs and snacks available to purchase. The interpretive center is open from 10:00AM - 6:00PM Memorial Day through Labor Day.
The fort also holds the title for the largest United States flag flown in North Dakota. Other attractions include the Veterans Memorial Wall and Walk, a paved walkway featuring bricks that honor those who have served, and a beautiful view overlooking the City of Jamestown.
Fort Seward offers a variety of camping options, including spaces for RVs and tents, as well as the opportunity to step back in time with Historical Camping. Fort Seward’s unique tent city provides hands-on experiences as well as spectacular photo opportunities.
Other activities include weekly programs geared towards children, providing both valuable learning opportunities and fun experiences.
From an overnight stay to a quick picnic at one of the shelters, Fort Seward truly is an inviting location with something for everyone.
